 From 'Laksa Girl' to Asia's top female DJ, Leng Yein has surprised the world when it was revealed she once sold laksa.


Penang-born superstar DJ Leng Yein has been heralded as one of the most monumentally famous individuals to ever emerge from Malaysia. Along side her powerhouse DJ performances, the 31-year-old who was named Asia’s #1 Female DJ is also famous for her pivotal views on the taboos behind cosmetic surgeries.


However, little do many know, that the opinion leader of a woman once sold Laksa.


That’s right, the now-extensively-famous Leng Yein once came from humble beginnings, selling Laksa alongside her grandmother.


It was recently revealed that Miss Leng’s grandmother runs a rather popular Laksa stall here at Sungai Petani in Kedah. Miss Leng and her sister, Leng Sean, never did forget their grass roots- and frequently drop by their grandmother’s humble stall to help her sell Laksa despite their monumental success in the electronic dance music industry.


This heartwarming story is a genuine reminder that despite their monumental success, most celebrities come from humble beginnings- well, not unless you’re Donald Trump and had a ‘small loan of a million dollars’ from your father.
What is a normal day in the life of Leng Yein?
Replying fan mails and messages on Facebook and Instagram. Giving away free gifts after free gifts to her beloved fans. Doing FB Live, communicating and exchanging thoughts, feelings and ideas with her fans. Playing the piano. Oh, and food and food and food, and a lot of love and positivity swimming in her bubble daily.

What is the one experience in life that has made her the tough cookie right now? 
Her hatepage. A group of anti-Leng Yein fans succeeded in causing her sleepless nights and made her jobless for nine months, 4 years plus ago. She will never forget how FRIENDSHIP, being OVERLY KIND, jealousy and overly trusting in some FRIENDS has costed her reputation, and her name, life and brand to fall apart. But thanks to this experience, she is almost unbreakable now.
