Makin’ it rain: Money mysteriously tossed down in Pasar Festival Kuningan Jakarta billboard

Last week, a viral video of a woman shaming her friend for sleeping with her husband by showering her with IDR100,000 (USD 7.20) bills became the talk of Indonesian social media and the source of endless memes. It may have also been the inspiration for what appears to have been a marketing stunt involving cash being dropped from a billboard in Jakarta this afternoon.
The money appears to have been tossed from an aerial work platform (aka cherry picker) next to a billboard located on Jalan Rasuna Said in Kuningan, South Jakarta, near the Plaza Festival complex. One witness told Kompas it started at around 12:30pm and lasted for about 20 minutes.

The billboard is for 17Q, a new Indonesian livestream app. Although we have not yet seen an official statement from the company taking responsibility for the money shower, the fact that the billboard says “hujan duit” (money rain) makes it a safe assumption that they were behind the stunt (as does a post on the company’s blog).
